Sunrise Technologies
Established in 1994, Sunrise Technologies is a new-economy powerhouse that focuses on solving global supply chain challenges. As a partner with Microsoft, it helps develop unified commerce, flexible technology, global intelligence, and a tight supply chain for a wide variety of clients.
-
To commemorate its 20th anniversary, Sunrise moved into new offices in 2017, renovated from an old warehouse in the historic manufacturing district of Winston-Salem, NC – now dubbed the Innovation Quarter.
-
John Murph was invited to help the firm design the new space with their own brand language – to transform an open, abandoned space into a branded environment that reflected the company’s personality and principles. Applying branding to a three dimensional space can be challenging (and the results compelling).
-
In addition to imbuing the new space with Sunrise's branding, we recognized that the warehouse architecture presented a vast space that might be initially overwhelming. Well designed interiors are best when they unfold before you gradually to tell a story, rather than blitz the visitor all at once. The Design Office of John Murph hoped to establish a degree of distinction and separation in the space's architecture, while still preserving the natural light that filters in through the huge facade of windows alongside a courtyard outside.
-
The environment was redesigned to reflect the natural visual associations of Sunrise. What’s in a name, after all? The entire space was engineered to simulate a sunrise, with the entrance and reception area designated as the focal point – the “sun,” so to speak.
Using color and clever space engineering, the “sunrise” motif was carried through. Visitors within the space could actually experience a change in ‘warmth’ as they moved about the space relative to the aforementioned “sun.”
-
The lynch pin of this branded environment is the Entrance Display. In addition to acting as the metaphorical “sun” in the overall sunrise motif throughout the office, this display features large vertical panels that align to present the brand logo when viewed from the main entrance to the space.
-
The resulting design manifested a compelling space for Sunrise to make its new home.
